As founding member of internationally acclaimed Icelandic band múm, Gyda Valtysdottir found fame young as the band were propelled into the limelight for breaking ground in the electronic pop genre, being from so seemingly remote a location as Iceland of such young years.

She has always been on the front foot exploring new ground, and left the band to pursue a more holistic life in music than pop could offer. She studied, and travelled the world collaborating in a broad range of styles, and most recently created the Epicycle project, where by she recorded a collection of classical interpretations intended as a gift to friends, to share the best of what she had found.

She brought audiences to tears at the Sigur Ros curated norður og niður festival in Iceland in the lead up to New Year’s eve 2017, and was featured on The Wire tapper in October 2017 as part of the campaign for the release of Epicycle on figureight records.

Jan/Feb 2019 dates throughout the UK will finally give Gyda the opportunity to more widely expose her 2018 figureight release Epicycle project live with Shazad Ismaily and Julian Sartorius making the trio.

Since releasing the Epicycle LP, Gyda has released Evolution, a full debut solo LP featuring gentle strong backed ethereal compositions finally, of her own creation entirely.

Recent live highlights have included participation in the Berlin’s 37d03d (PEOPLE) festival hosted at Funkhaus, touring as part of Damien Rice’s band throughout the Mediterranean and taking part as an improvisor in the Red Bull Istanbul music festival.
